Is a Flower Vending Machine an Emergency Flower Service? Sales Analysis of the VendiFlor Network
A flower vending machine as an overnight florist? That’s only part of the story
“When the flower shop is closed, the flower vending machine will take over the night shift.” This is one of the first thoughts that comes up when people discuss purchasing a flower vending machine. It often quickly turns into the assumption that this is its primary purpose: to act as an emergency flower service for customers who remembered about a bouquet late in the evening or in the middle of the night.
There is no doubt that this capability has value. A flower vending machine is available 24/7, does not care what time it is, and does not stop selling when the florist closes the doors. But does it really generate most of its revenue when traditional flower shops are already closed?

I decided to investigate this using data from our local VendiFlor network in Bolesławiec. No assumptions, declarations or marketing slogans. I went into the sales dashboard and analyzed purchase times across four machines operating in different parts of the city.
The immediate trigger was a night that looked like the perfect argument for the “emergency flower service” theory.
Seven bouquets and PLN 1,120 in sales between 2:24 and 4:13 AM
On Wednesday, September 2, at around 8:20 AM, I opened the app to check what was happening in our flower vending machines. VendiFlor 03 on Wesoła Street was showing seven bouquets sold and PLN 1,120 in sales.
The most interesting part, however, was the timing of the transactions: 2:24, 3:47, 3:53, 4:03, 4:05, 4:11 and 4:13 AM. Seven bouquets were purchased at a time when practically every flower shop in the city was closed. What’s more, six of them were sold within just 26 minutes.

While I was sleeping, my best salesperson was working normally. No night-shift premium, no complaints, and no need to figure out who was going to open the shop at 3:53 AM.
This single case could almost end the discussion. We could simply say: “Yes, a flower vending machine is an emergency flower service.” Except that one spectacular event does not describe the entire business model. So instead of stopping at the anecdote, I decided to look deeper into the data.
What does the VendiFlor network dashboard show?
The analysis covers the last 30 days visible in the dashboard at the beginning of September 2026, meaning it primarily reflects August sales.
During this period, four machines were operating in Bolesławiec: a K6 PRO at Carrefour on Śluzowa Street, two K13 PRO Hybrid machines – one near the PKS bus station on Wesoła Street and another near OTO Park on Hutnicza Street – as well as a K9 PRO launched on August 13 at City Center on Asnyka Street.

The dashboard divides sales into five time periods: 6:00–9:00 AM, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM, 3:00–7:00 PM, 8:00–11:00 PM and midnight–5:00 AM. The proportions read from the charts should be treated as approximate values, but their overall direction is clear.
| Sales period | Approx. share of network sales | What it tells us |
|---|---|---|
| 6:00–9:00 AM | approx. 14% | Flower vending machines start selling early in the morning |
| 10:00 AM–2:00 PM | approx. 38% | The strongest part of the day across the network |
| 3:00–7:00 PM | approx. 35% | The second major sales window |
| 8:00–11:00 PM | approx. 9% | An important extension of traditional florist opening hours |
| Midnight–5:00 AM | approx. 5% | Night-time sales exist, but they are not the foundation of the business |
Approximately 73% of all network sales take place between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM. When the morning period between 6:00 and 9:00 AM is added, roughly 86% of sales take place before 8:00 PM. Late evening and night sales account for approximately 14% combined, with the period between midnight and 5:00 AM representing around 5%.

The answer is therefore quite clear: a flower vending machine is not primarily an emergency flower service. Its main revenue is generated during the normal rhythm of the day, when customers are working, shopping, moving around the city and taking care of their everyday business.
This does not mean that night-time availability is unimportant.
It simply means that it should not be the primary justification for the investment.
Four flower vending machines, four different sales patterns
The network-wide analysis gives us the general picture, but looking at each machine individually shows just how strongly the hourly sales profile depends on location. There is no single universal sales pattern.Every location operates within a different combination of traffic generators, access routes, residential areas, stores and everyday customer habits.
VendiFlor Londyński – Wesoła Street: the strongest location and genuine 24/7 availability
The K13 PRO Hybrid on Wesoła Street, next to the PKS bus station and a retail park, is the leader of our network. Approximately 40% of its sales take place between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, around 27% between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, and approximately 18% in the morning.

This is the flower vending machine that sold seven bouquets worth PLN 1,120 during the night of September 1–2. Over the longer term, however, night-time sales are not its foundation. The location generates most of its revenue during the day, while 24/7 availability allows it to capture unusual – and sometimes highly concentrated – demand that cannot be planned in advance.
The London style machine illustrates the difference between the core sales model and an additional competitive advantage. The foundation is strong daily revenue. The advantage is that the machine does not stop selling when the city changes its rhythm.
VendiFlor Klasyczny – Śluzowa Street: the greatest importance of late evening sales
The K6 PRO at Carrefour on Śluzowa Street has been operating since December 2022 and is the oldest machine in our network. Its sales profile comes closest to the common idea of an “emergency flower service”, although even here, the middle of the night is not the most important period.

Approximately 34% of sales take place between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, 32% between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, while as much as 24% occurs during the late evening period between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM. The middle of the night accounts for around 4–5%, while the morning represents approximately 4%.
This is a particularly interesting result. Our classic flower vending machine on Śluzowa Street does not primarily rely on the middle of the night. Instead, it clearly extends the sales day beyond standard florist opening hours. In this case, the term “night shift” would be better replaced with an evening sales channel. The 8:00–11:00 PM period is an exceptionally strong part of this location’s sales profile.
VendiFlor Warsaw style – Hutnicza Street: a distinctly daytime model
The K13 PRO Hybrid at OTO Park on Hutnicza Street has a profile strongly connected to daytime retail traffic. Approximately 39% of sales take place between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, 36% between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and around 18% in the morning. Together, this means that more than 90% of sales occur before 8:00 PM.

Late evening accounts for only around 3%, while the middle of the night represents approximately 4%. This location therefore provides strong evidence against treating a flower vending machine exclusively as a replacement for a closed flower shop. The machine works primarily when its surrounding retail environment is active and when customers are in this part of the city for other reasons.
VendiFlor Bolesławiec style – Asnyka Street: a promising start, but still too little history
The K9 PRO at City Center on Asnyka Street has only been operating since August 13, 2026, so its results need to be interpreted cautiously. It has not yet completed a full month of operation, and a new location needs time to become known and establish itself in customers’ routines.

In the available data, approximately 46% of sales take place between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, around 40% between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, approximately 6% in the morning, 2% in the late evening and around 5–6% during the night. This is the most strongly daytime-oriented sales profile in the network: approximately 86% of sales take place between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
At this stage, it would be premature to draw final conclusions about this location. However, it is already clear that its initial source of sales is daytime city-centre traffic rather than evening or night-time emergency purchases.
Emergency flower service or a full-fledged sales channel?
The term “emergency flower service” is catchy and easy to remember, but from a business perspective it can lead to overly narrow thinking. It suggests that customers use a flower vending machine primarily when they have forgotten about flowers, all the flower shops are closed, and they need to save the situation.
Our data shows something different. Customers frequently choose a flower vending machine during normal business hours, even when a traditional florist may be open. They do so because of convenience, speed, easy parking, a location along their everyday route, a ready-made selection of bouquets and the ability to purchase without waiting for staff.
A flower vending machine is therefore not simply a way to cover the hours when a florist is closed. It is an independent sales channel operating 24/7. It serves customers at 3:00 PM just as it does at 3:53 AM, but daytime sales are what build the core business result.

The most accurate way to put it is this: A flower vending machine is not primarily an emergency flower service. But when an emergency flower service is needed, it is ready.
From one machine to managing a local network
With a single flower vending machine, an owner can still base many decisions on observation and intuition.Once several machines are operating, intuition is no longer enough.Every location has a different rhythm, average transaction value, peak hours and role within the overall network.
That is why network development requires modern analytical tools. The sales dashboard allows us to monitor revenue, transaction volume, average bouquet price, sales hours and days, as well as the performance of each individual location. This makes it possible to plan production, stock replenishment routes and the number of bouquets required at specific times of day more effectively.

The second layer is location analysis. In our project, we are beginning to combine actual sales results with spatial data: population, demographic structure, purchasing power, traffic generators and pedestrian accessibility zones. The next step will be to incorporate car accessibility, parking, competition, machine visibility and the actual nature of traffic at a given location.
A map alone will not make the decision for an entrepreneur. High revenue alone will not explain why a location works either. Only the combination of sales data, dashboards, spatial analysis and industry experience makes it possible to better understand a location and plan the development of a local network more intelligently.
Conclusions from August 2026
The data from our network does not support the assumption that the primary role of a flower vending machine is to provide a night-time replacement for a closed florist. Approximately three-quarters of sales take place between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM, while the middle of the night accounts for around 5% of the result. The most important business is generated during the day.
At the same time, night-time sales are not insignificant. Seven bouquets and PLN 1,120 in sales between 2:24 and 4:13 AM demonstrate that 24/7 availability can capture demand that a traditional location would be unable to serve. However, an investment should not be based on the expectation that nights like this will occur regularly.
The most important conclusion is the diversity of sales profiles. Śluzowa has an exceptionally strong late-evening period, Hutnicza sells primarily in line with daytime retail traffic, Asnyka is starting with a strong concentration of daytime sales, while Wesoła combines very strong daytime performance with genuine 24/7 availability.
If you already have a machine and are considering building a local network, the discussion becomes even more interesting: individual location reach, potential cannibalization, logistics, dashboards, performance analysis and the selection of future locations all become important factors. There is a lot to discuss.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About Flower Vending Machines as an Emergency Flower Service
Do flower vending machines mainly sell at night?
No. In the analyzed network, approximately 73% of sales take place between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM. The middle of the night, between midnight and 5:00 AM, accounts for around 5% of sales.
Does 24/7 availability matter?
Yes. It is not the foundation of the business, but it allows customers to be served when other sales channels are unavailable. A good example is the seven bouquets worth PLN 1,120 sold between 2:24 and 4:13 AM.
Does a Flower Vending Machine Compete With Your Own Flower Shop During the Day?
It may capture some of the sales, but it can also reach customers who would not have visited the flower shop at that time. That is why overall sales should be analyzed across all channels: the flower shop, Flower Vending Machines, online orders, and pick-up orders.
What Time of Day Does a Flower Vending Machine Sell the Most?
It depends on the location. Across our network, the core selling hours are 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, but some locations see particularly strong sales late in the evening, while others are almost entirely driven by daytime foot traffic.
Does Every Good Location Need to Have a Large Local Population?
No. The number of residents is just one factor. Other important considerations include traffic generators, accessibility, parking, visibility, the opportunity to make a purchase while already there, 24/7 availability, and the nature of customers’ daily routes.
How Do You Evaluate a Location for Your First Flower Vending Machine?
It is worth combining demographic and economic data with an assessment of foot traffic, competition, parking, visibility, pedestrian and vehicle access, and the cost of the location. Intuition or population figures alone are not enough.
How Do You Manage Multiple Flower Vending Machines?
The foundation is a dashboard that shows the performance of each location, sales hours, number of transactions, average selling price, and stock levels. This makes it possible to plan production, restock the machines, and further expand the network based on data.
Can Sales Be Predicted for a New Location?
You can prepare a forecast and reduce the risk, but you cannot guarantee the outcome. The most valuable approach is to compare the planned location with similar locations that are already operating and analyze their actual sales performance.

Methodological Note
The analysis of sales hours was based on the VendiFlor network dashboard as displayed on September 2, 2026, covering the previous 30 days, primarily August 2026. Hourly shares were read from the charts and are approximate values. The Flower Vending Machine on Asnyka Street began operating on August 13, so its sales profile is preliminary. The nighttime series of seven transactions on September 2 was the event that prompted the analysis, but it was not treated as representative of the entire month.
